- Beckett
IMDB Rating: 5.6
Where to Watch: Netflix
Beckett is definitely not a film for everyone. The opening scenes might even confuse you and you might even reach out to the remote. Well, hold onto your horses. This dissonance is intentional. It’s a politically-flavoured paranoid thriller about an American tourist. The lead role is played by John David Washington. The story begins with an American couple who are very much in love and are vacationing in Greece. You’ll also find a refreshing intimacy you may have not seen anywhere. Well, this lasts a short while because their perfect vacation is interrupted by a vast conspiracy. What ensues from there is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Watch it to know more.
- The Chair
IMDB Rating: Unavailable
Where to Watch: Netflix
Ever wondered how generational divides would look through the prism of a college language department? Honestly speaking, The Chair is an interesting exercise. It’s all about how the first film of colour leads it, played by the exceptional Sandra Oh. It’s a latest Hollywood web series wherein the fabulous ensemble cast outshines the content. Think of it as a typical college atmosphere where there are all kinds of amusing characters. You’ll find an outspoken one, the eager one and the rising star. The Chair deals with the changing nature of academia and how higher education is evolving. The perfect blend of comedy and drama make this one a fun watch.
- The Last Letter from your Lover
IMDB Rating: 6.7
Where to Watch: Netflix
The Last Letter from your Lover is an adaptation of the 2012 Jojo Moyes novel. The film is all about an awkward pair of journalists who fall for each other. It’s a story about doomed love affairs. It all starts when Felicity Jones stumbles upon a collection of love letters in her newspaper archives. Though the film does have some loopholes, it has been executed with a lot of nuance. If you want to pass a couple of hours on a gloomy, romantic day, this film has you covered. Don’t expect it to be overly romantic. However, it’s full of all-consuming passion.
- Godzilla vs Kong
IMDB Rating: 6.4
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video
Godzilla vs. Kong had a theatrical release earlier this year. However, owing to the pandemic, the response wasn’t as it was expected. However, the makers have finally decided to release the film on OTT. The epic monster-on-monster action and thunderous sound effects is why you must really watch this film. It’s the fourth film in Warner Bros and Legendary’s MonsterVerse. The highlight of this film is that the two iconic movie monsters fight more than once. Think of it as a classic monster movie. However, the makers have tried to make it realistic and ultra-detailed. If you’re a monster movie fan, this one delivers immensely.
- Nine Perfect Strangers
IMDB Rating: 7.5
Where to Watch: Hulu/Amazon Prime Video
Nine Perfect Strangers is David E Kelley’s third collaboration with Nicole Kidman after two seasons of Big Little Lies and The Undoing. Only three episodes into the season, believe us you’ll be hooked. The lead actor, Nicole Kidman stars as a mysterious spiritual guru and channels her inner Osho every now and then. Though the show loses pace somewhere in between, the star cast ensures it springs back to life immediately. Though the eight-part drama isn’t for everyone, watching these nine “perfect” strangers relax on a 10-day retreat is worth a watch especially since they don’t know what’s about to hit them.
- Sweet Girl
IMDB Rating: Unavailable
Where to Watch: Netflix
Don’t be fooled by the title of the film. No, it’s not a teenage drama. Instead, it’s a story of a blue-collar family man who vows to bring justice to the people responsible for his wife’s death while protecting the only family he has right now, his daughter. It’s quite similar to Netflix’s man-on-the-run thriller, Beckett. Though the film is predominantly action-packed and is overly edited, it does have its fair share of sweet surprises. Watch the film for Jason Mamoa.
- Modern Love S2
IMDB Rating: 8.0
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video
Season one of Modern Love felt like a flashy, feel-good Hollywood love story. However, season two promises fresh faces set in eight new fables of love. The series comes from creator John Carney who has made warm films like Once, Sing Street and Begin Again. So, should you be excited about Modern Love S2? Well, you can. This season is far more sensitive and sensual. Though some of the episodes are highly exaggerated, the protagonists bring out a promising premise coupled with cute chemistry, bells, whistles and sweet dialogues. Certain episodes stay with you even after the show is over and that’s what makes it a rewarding mixed bag.
