A Befitting Tribute by a Martyr's Wife- Nikita Kaul

Back In February 2019, Indian Army Officer Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal was martyred in an encounter with terrorists at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. For his valour he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra. And two years later today his brave wife Nitika Kaul has passed out from the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is now commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army!

The PRO, Udhampur, HQ of Northern Command tweeted to congratulate Nitika Kaul. He said, "Maj Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal made the Supreme Sacrifice at #Pulwama in 2019, was awarded SC (P). Today his wife @Nitikakaul dons #IndianArmy uniform; paying him a befitting tribute. A proud moment for her as Lt Gen Y K Joshi, #ArmyCdrNC himself pips the Stars on her shoulders!"

Union Minister Smriti Irani also took to Twitter to praise her, she tweeted- "Lt. @NitikaKaul, you’re an embodiment of dedication, determination and devotion of India’s Nari Shakti. Major Vibhuti Dhoundiyal would be smiling today with joy and pride seeing Stars on your shoulder. My best wishes to you in all your endeavours,".

Just six months after the death of her husband, Nikita cleared the Short Service Commission (SSC) exam and the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview and was commissioned at Officers Training Academy (OTA) at Chennai for her training. She left her corporate job and joined the army as a tribute to her late husband.
