Today early morning, the nation woke up to the news of history being created by yet another bright and young para-athlete- Avani Lekhara! The 19 year-old scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a GOLD medal at the paralympics. In fact, she is the first Indian woman to win a Gold in Shooting at an Olympics and Paralympic Games.
She clinched Gold after scoring 249.6 in women's 10m air rifle standing (SH1) at Tokyo Paralympics 2020, not only equalling the world record (EWR) but also breaking the paralympic record! What an amazing feat by the young para-athlete.
She started her shooting journey in 2015. At the age of just 11, an unfortunate accident led her to rely on a wheelchair. She is currently World No.-5! As rightly said by C. JoyBell C., “The strength of a woman is not measured by the impact that all her hardships in life have had on her; but the strength of a woman is measured by the extent of her refusal to allow those hardships to dictate her and who she becomes.”
Another daughter of India has made the nation super proud!
