Kamrak ka Achaar(Starfruit Pickle)

Eating pickles is an enjoyable experience though making one can often be time consuming. Would you believe us if we said that we have a pickle recipe that will take you just 5 minutes to make? That too with hardly any preparation time required apart from cutting up the fruit! Then read along as this is one smart pickle that can be consumed the very next day of cooking it and doesn’t require any special preparation or after care like putting out in the sun. A relatively not heard of pickle, this one’s made from starfruits which are loaded with Vitamin C. So, here’s presenting a healthy pickle - Kamarak ka Achaar.

Cooking Time- 5 Minutes


Starfruit (Kamrak)- ½ Kilogram

Mustard Oil- 100 ml

Red Chili Powder- 1 Tablespoon

Turmeric Powder (Haldi)- 1 Tablespoon

Fennel Seed Powder (Saunf Powder) – 2 Teaspoon

Crushed Small Mustard Seeds (Chhoti Rai)- 1 Teaspoon

Nigella Seeds (Kalonji)- ½ Teaspoon

Black Salt- 1 Teaspoon

Salt (Regular)- 2 Teaspoon

Vinegar – 1 Tablespoon


  1. Cut starfruit horizontally so that you get star-shaped pieces.
  2. Heat oil and put it off the flame after it heats for around 2-3 minutes. Don’t bring it to a boil.
  3. Add the spices and sliced star fruit.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Add vinegar when the pickle cools down and mix well.

Pour it in a jar and your pickle is ready! It can be consumed after a day (24 hours) of being cooked! Its shelf life ranges between 15-20 days. If you would like to store it for a longer period of upto 6 months, cover it well with a layer of oil.
