Avoid washing your hair with extremely hot water:

Winter calls for long hot showers! Sometimes, showering with hot water also seems less, lol! As satisfying as it may feel, using hot water on the hair can actually damage them. It can cause a dry and itchy scalp and dandruff.  Hot water also leads to weak roots, brittle ends, and flyaways and promotes breakage. Always use lukewarm water to wash your hair. Bathing with hot water is not recommended for the skin as well and can lead to dryness and flakiness.

Keep your scalp moisturised:

Keeping your scalp moisturised is equally important as your skin. Winter can make your skin and hair very dry and flaky. The loss of moisture in the air can cause this dryness, brittle ends and whatnot. This time is when the oils lying around your house come in handy.  Give yourself a hot oil massage to keep the scalp and ends moisturised. Coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil or any other oil of your choice can work wonders for all your hair woes.

Limit the number of hair washes:

As we all know, winter is a dry season. Washing your hair frequently can strip off the natural oils making it even dryer and itchier. You won’t generally face the issue of a sticky and oily scalp in the winter, so limiting the number of hair washes can become easy! Try to use moderate sulphate-free shampoos on your scalp to prevent it from further flakiness.

Make hair conditioners and masks your best friend:

Hair conditioners and masks can be your best bet during the winter months. A thick, moisturising hair conditioner can help you fight dull and brittle hair. Make sure to let the conditioner sit on your hair for at least a few minutes before washing it off. Use a conditioner after every wash and a hair mask once a week for extra and deep hydration. You can also use leave-in conditioners to fight the chilly winter winds!

Avoid using heat on your hair:

Dripping water from your hair can be irritating, especially in the chilly months. This situation can make you use a hair dryer to dry out your hair quickly. But the truth is blow drying your hair can damage your hair and lead to even more breakage. Always allow your hair to dry naturally without using any heat. Your hair is generally delicate and weak in the colder months, so using heat-styling tools can amplify the issue even more.

Use delicate microfibre towels:

The normal towels we use can be a little harsh for the hair in the winter. It can lead to frizzy and unmanageable hair. So, opting for a soft microfibre towel can help you control the frizz and dead ends.

Drink enough water:

We cannot emphasise enough on this point. Internal hydration is as essential as external hydration. Did you know that one of the components of your hair is water? So, drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration can also affect your skin and make it rough.
