Best New Movies We Are Looking Forward to in 2023

As the new year is knocking at our doors, massive new films are coming out too. We have assembled a list of the biggest movies coming out in 2023. Whether it's Bollywood, Hollywood or Netflix, we got you covered. From Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy to Tollywood’s Virasu, we have compiled various titles and films from different genres which will hit the big screens in the upcoming year.

It is impossible to say which of these new movies in 2023 will break records, but we know most of these will be huge. 

Here is a list of what movies are coming in 2023 and which ones to keep an eye out for.

1. Oppenheimer

Starring: Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr.

One of the first new movies for 2023 that we will talk about is Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Based on the life of the “Father of the Atomic Bombs”, Robert Oppenheimer who worked closely on the Manhattan Project. This project gave birth to the atomic bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Christopher Nolan not only directed but wrote the screenplay himself, as the movie is based on a book written by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwyn. 

2. John Wick: Chapter 4.

Release date: 24 March.

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of the most anticipated movies in the 2023 list. Not much has been known about the last instalment except that John Wick is at war with the High Table - who believe he is dead. However, Director Chad Stahelski has insinuated that the ending might not be a happy one.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.

The list of 2023 English movies will remain incomplete without the mention of at least one of MCU’s new releases. Volume 4 of Guardians of the Galaxy will end the trilogy. The movie will have intergalactic fights while our heroes try to save the universe. It will also be Director James Gunn’s last movie with the MCU before moving to DC. 

4. Maestro.

Starring: Bradley Cooper, Maya Hawke, Jeremy Strong, Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer.

After we witnessed the directorial brilliance of Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, Maestro automatically became one of the most awaited new movies on Netflix in 2023. Bradley Cooper co-writes and stars in the biopic of Leonard Bernstein, the master American composer. He was the first conductor from the United States to get international recognition.

5. Your Place or Mine.

Release date: 10 February.

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, Zoe Chao, Jesse Williams, Rachel Bloom.

For all the rom-com fans out there, Reese Whitherspoon is coming back to the genre. The movie revolves around Debbie (Whitherspoon’s character), a regular LA mom, and Peter (Kutcher’s character), her best friend in New York. They exchange their houses for a week, and the story ensues. Aline Brosh McKenna is the director, executive producer and writer of this new release movie in 2023.

6. Varisu.

Release date: 12 January.

Starring: Joseph Vijay, Rashmika Mandana, Shaam, Prakash Raj, Sangeetha.

Joseph Vijay plays the role of a happy and satisfied Vijay Rajendran in his life. But things rapidly change for him when his foster father dies unexpectedly. According to IMDB, this is the third most anticipated upcoming Indian movie. Vamshi Paidipally directs this action drama film. With Vijay Babu in the lead, it becomes one of the much-awaited movies coming out in 2023.

7. Pathaan.

Release date: 25 January.

Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham.

When we talk about the 2023 movies, Bollywood has many in store. After the flop of Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Zero in 2018, Pathaan will be his comeback movie. The movie's plot takes place in a dystopian world in the middle eastern region. Most luxurious and rich houses that once inhabited the elite class in the mid-east now give shelter to hardcore criminals. An undercover policeman, an ex-convict and some others team up to defeat a drug lord known to kill his own father. Siddharth Anand is the director of the film.

8. Jawan.

Release date: 2 June.

Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani.

Atlee, whose previous works include Raja Rani, Theri and Mersal, is directing Shah Rukh Khan’s second film of 2023 - Jawan. This action drama film follows the story of a common man who was wrongfully accused of a crime he did not commit. The film shows us how this awful event changed him, how he got his life together and how he fights back against the people who put him through all this misery. This new movie for 2023 will be released in five different languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

9. Barbie.

Release date: 14 July.

Starring: Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey. 

After Greta Gerwig’s major success in adapting Little Women, Barbie could be a potential major hit. The most famous doll of all generations, Barbie, is banished from her Barbieland, where Ken used to live with her; she has to interact with people from the normal world. Barbie could be a wonderful surprise for cinema lovers with its vibrant costumes, set design, and unique plotline. In the trailer, we see the narration of Helen Mirren, which is quite funny and a parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Greta Gerwig co-wrote this movie with Noah Baumbach, which might be a cause for concern. But until then, let’s hope for something wonderful to come out in 2023.
