Am I good enough? Do I fit in here? Do they like me? Am I too overdressed? Will they accept me like this? Do you often find yourself swinging between these questions? If you do, we have a small request for you! PLEASE STOP IT! These show a sign of low self-esteem and low self-confidence. Self-esteem is the opinions and thoughts you have about yourself and how you treat yourself! Basically- your inner voice! It is very easy for oneself to indulge in self-pity and drown in the ocean of negativity but getting back up, and having a positive attitude is the most difficult thing to adapt. If you are suffering from the same, we have made a list of a few points you can take care of to boost your self-esteem!

Be self-compassionate:

The first and foremost step toward building self-esteem is to love yourself. We all have learnt to be kind and respectful towards others but that respect and kindness are nowhere to be found when it comes to ourselves. Being harsh on ourselves seems like the easiest task in the whole wide world! Being self-critical, picking out the littlest of flaws, and self-guilt is something that we all indulge in easily. This is something that will take you on the road of negativity and self-consciousness. Try being a little more kind and compassionate to yourself and you will be able to see the difference. Imagine a friend in need, the way you will react in that situation with them should be the way to handle a problem with yourself! We more often than not give better advice to others than to ourselves!

Learn the importance of ‘ME’ time:

Me time is something that is often looked upon by most people. Doing something that you love at least once a day can really help in boosting your self-esteem! This comes from a personal experience. Whatever makes you happy or satisfied, spend a little time doing that and trust me, you will find the best of yourself in it. Be it dressing up, doing your makeup, listening to music, reading a book or self-care, doing something for yourself will boost your self-esteem like nothing else!

Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses:

Another crucial step towards building self-confidence is knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are! We all have some things that we excel at and some which require a little more attention. Focus on doing things that boost your mood and excite you. Making a list is a great idea when it comes to self-discovery. Contradict and remind yourself that the negative thoughts you have about yourself are not true.

Learn to say NO and create boundaries:

Are you one of those who have a hard time saying no to others? Don’t worry, you are not alone! This is a common sign found in people with low self-esteem. LEARN TO SAY NO if you feel that you are overburdened with work be it any place! Don’t worry about how they will feel when you refuse to do their share of work. Creating healthy boundaries can help you get rid of the excess stress that can pull you down.

Learn a new skill:

Age is no bar when it comes to learning a new skill! It can be a secret ingredient for boosting self-esteem. People with low self-esteem often indulge in self-doubt about their capabilities, learning something new makes you feel more efficient and touches every aspect of your life in a positive way! Be it a new language or even a new sport, it can take your confidence to an entirely new level. Not only will it improve your focus but also your mental and cognitive performance!

Challenge yourself every day:

Are you someone who loves to challenge yourself every day or someone who loves to stay within your comfort zone? Most people with low self-esteem tend to stay where they are without challenging themselves. Start living on the edge of your comfort zone and challenge yourself every day with something new and exciting.

Stop looking for validations from others:

Dress to impress, we must have heard this a lot of times but is that actually true? Yes, it is! Dress to impress, not others but yourself! How do we emphasise enough on this point? However, you look, however you dress or however you carry yourself should just satisfy yourself! Never ask someone how you look, as every person is different, their opinions will be different too, chances are you might not like their views on how you look. That doesn’t matter! Be confident in your own skin and carry yourself PROUDLY!
