Not drinking enough water:

Dehydration is the absence of enough water in our bodies. It can cause itchiness, flakiness and extreme dryness.

Environmental factors:

Even if you eat adequate amounts of nutrients and keep your body hydrated, you can still have dehydrated skin. The reason can be external factors such as weather, pollution, UV rays, etc. Excess sun exposure, dry climates and dust are some of the other reasons for dehydrated skin. Not just dehydration, these factors can also cause our skin to age faster. 

Alcohol or tobacco:

Alcohol or tobacco affects not just our internal body but our skin too. Alcohol can cause loss of fluids from the body, thus resulting in dehydration. It can also make your skin lose some nutrients too, which can cause dull-looking skin. This can also cause our skin to look wrinkled, dry, flaky and even bloated. 

Stress:

Even if you don’t say it, your skin will show if you are stressed or tired! If you are stressed, your skin will automatically start showing it. Conditions like flakiness, dryness, itchiness, eczema and acne can be a result of chronic or acute stress. Certain hormones released by our body when stressed can also lead to clogged pores, eventually leading to acne.

We are always advised to use skincare or makeup products according to our skin type. The sole reason behind it is that improper layering of products can lead to damage to our skin. Not just products, but poor skincare habits, too, can lead to conditions such as dehydrated skin. 

Other factors:

Sometimes, skin dehydration can also be caused due to other factors like poor diet, poor lifestyle habits, certain medications and health conditions, genes, lack of sleep, usage of extremely hot water on the skin, over-exfoliation of skin, etc. 

Treatment of dehydrated skin:

Drink lots and lots of fluids:

Now that we have learned that the absence of enough water in our body can cause skin dehydration and flakiness, including a lot of fluids in your diet, can be a good option to treat dehydrated skin naturally. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, especially when doing physical activities like working out or stepping out on a hot day. 

Avoid alcohol and stop smoking:

Another reason we spoke about was the consumption of alcohol and smoking. These habits can lead to fluid loss from the body, leaving it dehydrated. Both of these things can damage your skin and reduce the water content in the body. Avoiding caffeine is also advisable when you have dehydrated skin. 

Invest in a humidifier:

As discussed, dry climates and cold weather can also lead to dehydrated skin. The reason why this happens is that the dry air around us snatches away the moisture from our skin. So, investing in a good humidifier is a great choice for people with such skin conditions. The humidifier will keep moisture in the air around you, evaporating less from your skin.

 

Use a good moisturiser:

Moisturisers can be a blessing for people with dry and dehydrated skin. Where internal hydration is necessary, providing a layer of external hydration can work wonders in your favour. Choose a thick, cream-based moisturiser for your skin type, as lightweight moisturisers may not give you enough hydration. One tip that you should keep in mind is that always use your moisturiser on damp skin instead of dry and feel the change for yourself.
