‘Dogs and Indian not allowed,’ once said by the Britishers. Today, we Indians stand proud as Rishi Sunak becomes the UK’s first Indian Prime Minister and Akshata Murty the first Indian First Lady of the UK. Born in 1980, Murty is Narayana Murty’s daughter, the co-founder of Infosys.
Akshata Murty is a businesswoman and fashion designer and has many ventures. She holds a 0.93% stake in Infosys, making her one of the wealthiest women in the UK. As Akshata is an Indian citizen, her non-domiciled status ensured that she had to pay no taxes, which became a topic of discussion in the UK.
As Murty belongs to a family of entrepreneurs, she has grown up with the same mindset. Later, she developed an interest in fashion that led to the birth of her own fashion line called, ‘Akshata Designs’ in 2009. After a few years, Akshata stepped foot again into the entrepreneurial world and co-founded many business firms and ventures.
Director of Catamaran Ventures, Akshata Murty, co-founded a family business venture with her husband in London. Other than that, she has investments in 2 Jamie Oliver restaurant chains. She is also a part owner of the fitness chain Digme Fitness and an IT business called Soroco with her brother, Rohan Murty.
Akshata Murty was born in Hubli and led a simple life without much access to phones and television. After schooling at Baldwin Girls Hugh School, she moved to California, where she studied French and Economics at Claremont McKenna College. Murthy also has a diploma in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA. She later pursued her MBA from Stanford University, where she met Rishi Sunak and decided to get married. The couple has two children, Anoushka and Krishna.
Again, we Indians stand very proud of Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. We wish them all good luck for their future.
