Is removing makeup a bigger nightmare for you than putting it on? We feel you! Looking beautiful and dazzling at the party is awesome but when it comes to coming back home all tired and getting hands on a makeup remover we all feel frustrated and worried. Yes, worried, because we don’t want to put harmful chemicals on our face which are often present in the makeup removers available in the market. So, if you want to try out a DIY makeup remover which is 100% natural and made with ingredients easily available at your home, you are at the right place.

1. Coconut Oil

Who doesn’t have  coconut oil at home, but did you know it’s a life saviour if you want to remove makeup? Coconut oil is not only known for its antibacterial properties that keeps acne away but a few drops of it can be used as an effective makeup remover.

How Do You Remove Makeup With Coconut Oil?

It's quite simple. Just take a few drops of it and dab it gently on your face with your palms (if it's in solid form the heat of your palm will liquify it). No need for any cotton balls or cotton pads. Gently rub over your skin, you will notice that the makeup starts melting away. Once sufficient makeup has melted away, rinse off with warm water and just pat dry. Post this you will be left with baby soft skin.

Alternatively you can mix coconut oil with micellar water and use cotton pads to remove the makeup. This particularly works for heavy makeup which is often hard to remove.

2. Milk

We already know cleansing milk is a boon when it comes to removing even the peskiest of makeup. But did you know good old milk can be just as effective? Raw milk is one of the most natural ways to remove makeup and it works perfectly for you if you have sensitive skin.

How Can One Remove Makeup With Milk?

As easy as a breeze, just take some raw milk in a small container, dab cotton balls in it and gently rub around your face, wiping the makeup as you go. You can use it to remove eye makeup too. After the makeup is removed, just wash your face with warm water and it’s done! Your skin will get a natural glow.

If you have very oily skin, you can opt for skimmed milk as the chances for an acne breakout will reduce while for dry skin, whole milk works perfectly.

3. Cucumber Juice for Oily Skin

Who doesn’t love the part of facial routine, where two cucumber slices are kept on our eyes for some time. It makes you feel rejuvenated and your eyes feel super relaxed. But did you know that cucumber juice is actually a perfect natural makeup remover too? It’s great for oily skin and that’s why it’s a common ingredient in many beauty products like toners available in the market. Cucumber juice works best as a natural makeup remover for light makeup and is a perfect DIY makeup remover for acne prone skin.

How Does Cucumber Juice Work As A Makeup Remover?

Just take a cucumber, chop it up and take out its juice. Since it would be in a pulp form, you can add a few drops of water to ensure your cotton balls soak it up properly. Now just use these soaked cotton balls and gently rub over your face to remove the makeup. Not only will your skin  feel fresh but if you use it regularly you will notice any scars or blemishes you have on your skin will start getting lighter too.

For heavy makeup you can combine cucumber juice with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and one tablespoon of castor oil to make homemade natural makeup remover.

4. Raw Honey

Honey has been an age-old ingredient of all beauty regimes. Right from using it for facials to even using it for waxing, the number of ways in which honey can be used for regular beauty routines are endless. And when we are talking about natural makeup remover, how can we forget good old raw honey! Honey not only exfoliates your skin but it acts as a natural moisturiser too.

What Is The Recipe For Natural Honey Makeup Remover?

Since honey in itself has a very thick consistency, you might be wondering how to use it. It’s actually super simple, just take a spoonful of honey and apply it over your face (preferably go in for raw honey as it’s 100% natural). Gently massage it around your face similar to how you apply a moisturiser. Then wash it off with warm water, you can also use a clean cloth later for pat drying your face.

If you aren’t comfortable with the thick consistency of honey, you can mix it with a good carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil and then use it as a makeup remover. Rubbing a few drops of both oil and honey will not only remove the makeup but unclog your pores as well.

5. Castor Oil-Olive Oil combo

bottles of essential oils including castor oil and olive oil

What is the best homemade makeup remover that you can store for later use too? The one that tops the list is the castor oil-olive oil combo. It’s a match made in heaven and you can simply make it once and store it for use anytime you prefer. Having a low comedogenic score, the chances of castor oil clogging your skin pores is quite less. Not only this combo works for all skin types but you will be amazed to know in spite of being oils themselves, they can actually help in removing excess oil from your skin!

How to Make a Natural Makeup Remover That Can be Stored?

The recipe for making castor oil-olive oil makeup remover is following the ratio of 3:1, mix three parts of castor oil with one part of olive oil. If you are making 100 ml makeup remover, add 75ml castor oil with 25 ml olive oil. This makeup remover will not only be gentle for your skin but even the heaviest of makeup can be removed by it including eye makeup. All you need to do is take some cotton balls or makeup remover wipes and gently remove the makeup. Finally wash with warm water and pat dry your face.

P.S.: Always do a patch test before trying any makeup product, even if it is 100% natural and homemade.

There are many more DIY makeup recipes out there but we selected some tried and tested ones. Apart from the ones mentioned above, some oils that work as a great makeup remover are- Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil and Rosehip Oil.
