“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”Rumi

Love is boundless and so are its possibilities. People should be free to love beyond borders of all kinds. It should be free of all judgment and talk. It is a personal choice and hence must be respected. However, in the case of celebrities, this is unfortunately not as true. Be it our B-Town stunners or the gorgeous personalities from Hollywood, celebs are under the constant watch of the infamous paparazzi which makes their personal life a public affair. Due to this, celebrities are constantly judged for the partners they choose to spend their time or lives with. They have to go through the constant effort of making sure that their personal lives are indeed personal.

Who the celebs are seeing or who they marry is and should only be their own concern. While celebrities understand their fan base and love them back whole heartedly, matters of their personal choice should not be attacked as done via the media. This becomes all the more difficult for female celebrities. Always under the media eye for their choices, female celebrities are constantly under the media lens. This makes it very difficult for them to make free choices and be their true selves. This includes their marriage and personal relationships too.

However, a lot of our Divas have willingly and unabashedly stepped out of the glamorous film industry to marry people of their choice and belonging to different professions.

Here is a list of female celebrities who tied the knot with non-celebs!

Madhuri Dixit and Sriram Nene

Bollywood’s dream girl took the film industry as well as her entire fanbase by surprise when she announced her marriage in 1999 - with Dr, Sriram Nene. A name unknown to the glamorous world of bollywood, Madhuri tied the knot with her beau and took a hiatus from her filmy career. She moved to Denver, USA with Dr. Nene who is a cardiovascular surgeon. She moved away from the glamor of the film industry to lead a normal life away from the eyes of the paparazzi.

The queen of bollywood who had starred in some of the most loved movies like Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Raja, Khal Nayak and more- returned to her bollywood career with the hit ‘Aaja Nachle’ in 2009 after a decade long break.

Madhuri and Sriram continue to be in love and are parents to two adorable sons Arin and Ryan.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra

What was supposed to only be a business meeting, turned into full fledged filmy romance. Shilpa and Raj met first in London where Shilpa was looking to promote her Perfume brand. Although the two denied any rumors that were sparked by the media, they began dating shortly after meeting each other.

Shilpa and Raj faced a lot of media coverage regarding Kundra’s 1st marriage and accusations of his first wife against Shilpa. However, Raj dismissed all these conversations by stating that Shilpa had no role in the failure of his previous marriage. He always talks about Shilpa in the most beautiful way-

“It was love at first sight. From the moment I saw her, I knew I’d love her to be my life partner. She’s got an angelic side to her. Her homely side grew on me as I got to know her. She’s a great housewife. She’s a supermom! She’s the wind beneath my wings and I try to be her support system. We are each other’s strengths.”

Shilpa and Raj took their marriage vows in 2009 and have been even more in love since. They were blessed with their first born Viaan in 2014 and most recently in 2020, the duo surprised the fans by announcing the birth of their daughter via surrogacy.

Raveena Tandon and Anil Thandani

Raveena Tandon had a difficult time both professionally and personally after her relationship with actor Akshay Kumar ended. The news of her marriage to film distributor Anil Thadani, on the other hand, surprised not only her fans, but also the film industry.  They tied the knot in November 2004 and are parents to daughter Rasha and son Ranbir.

However Raveena’s story is all the more inspiring as she already had two adopted daughters before she married Thadani. At the mere age of 21, Raveena adopted two girls Pooja and Chhaya in 1994 (daughters of her cousin who unfortunately passed away) and has been an amazing mother to all 4 of her kids.

She has not only broken the stigma around adoption but has set a supermom example for many women out there. Raveena and Anil remain happily married and Raveena can now be seen judging a variety of reality shows on television.

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied

While there are more B-Town divas to look at, lets also have a look at some of “Hollywood's most loved”

Natalie Portman didn't just walk away with an Oscar after starring in the psychological thriller Black Swan in 2010. She also walked away with her husband;)

On filming, she and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, who also participated in the film, got along swimmingly. She received her Oscar in 2011 and dedicated it to her "beautiful love" and their then-newborn son, Aleph. Their daughter Amalia was born in 2018 after they married in 2012. Millepied is still the artistic director of the L.A. Dance Project, which he created.

Natalie and Benjamin tied the knot in August 2012 and remain deliriously happy today.

Benjamin who continues his dance project even today and Natalie who went on to star in some of the biggest industry hits, are very supportive of each other’s careers and professional choices.

Lisa Kudrow and Micheal Stern

While many of her Friends co-stars dated and married other well-known Hollywood figures, Lisa Kudrow chose to marry a man who was not in the industry: French advertising executive Michel Stern. A relationship of 5 long years eventually led the two to the altar. The couple hitched in 1995 and became mom and dad to their son Julian Murray. Interestingly, the pregnancy was included in the sitcom as well - remember when Phoebe was a surrogate for her brother Frank?

According to Kudrow, the secret to the couple's longevity is that they don't make promises they can't keep, such as feeling the same way about each other forever. "However, we promise to work on any issues that arise," she continued. "We're dedicated to making our marriage work."

Lisa and Frank have been together ever since and have individually continued to pursue their careers brilliantly.

These actresses are indeed living their ‘happily ever after’ with their real life heroes as well!

These stories leave us with a simple explanation- actor or not, love does not have any boundaries whatsoever. Marriages are indeed made in heaven and these jodis agree with us wholeheartedly! What remains important is the happiness that we get out of sacred oaths like that of a marriage and it is the only thing that should matter at the end.
