Well, this shouldn’t be the case. If you have an increasing urge to get rid of your bra as you’re home, it’s a warning sign that your bra is an ill-fitting one. Over 8 out of 10 women wear the wrong bra size and almost 50% continue wearing it even if it doesn’t fit well. We understand that you might want to remove the worth of this object that plays a supporting role in your life. However, you need to understand that there are a plethora of wrong size bra problems. It can wreak havoc on your health. It can damage your breasts, cause sagging, result in poor posture and even cause back pain.
Well, it’s never too late to fix the problem. Therefore, in this blog, we’re going to be addressing all the signs that indicate your bra isn’t a one-size-fits-all deal.
5 Warning Signs your Bra isn’t the Right Size
The straps dig into your shoulders
If your bra straps are digging into the skin and cutting off circulation, you need to toss it in the bin. The job of a bra is to support your breasts and ensure you can do your work without any hassle. If it’s constantly piercing into your skin, it can be a bad thing. To overcompensate this, a lot of women further tighten the shoulder straps in the hope that their breasts will bounce around less and the shoulder pain will reduce. However, this theory is completely wrong. Always remember, your shoulder straps only offer 20% support while your band offers 80%. Too tight straps can even leave permanent marks on your shoulders. Thus, beware!
Quad boob
At some point in time, we’ve all faced the four-boob issue. If your breasts are popping over the top, sides and bottom of your bra cups, it means your bra size is a bit too small. There are two major reasons why this occurs – hormonal changes, menstruation or menopause. Your breasts spilling over the edge of the cup isn’t the nicest thing. The extra bulge can even make the shape of your breasts look weird once you wear your clothes. Also, there’s nothing wrong in changing your cup size. Seek a professional’s advice and you might have to just increase your cup size by a letter. Once you change your bra, you will realise that you’re a lot more comfortable.
Your bra band goes up your back
It’s crucial for your bra band to be tight enough. If it rises up, there definitely is a fit issue. The best way to check if it fits fine or not is by standing sideways to your mirror and seeing how the band goes around your back. It shouldn’t be higher than the underside of your breasts forming an arch around your back. If the band isn’t fine, it definitely can’t give you proper support. As you go through the day, it will just keep riding up thereby making you feel more uncomfortable. If this happens to you, just go down a band size. For example, 36B becomes 34C. The band should be not too tight nor too loose.
The straps keep falling down
If your straps keep falling, it doesn’t mean you’re wearing the wrong band size. It’s a sign that your cup is too big. Tighten your straps to the right level. The band around the chest should be at the same level front and back. To check the strap, insert two fingers under your under-band. If they fit properly, it’s the right bra size but if there’s still extra room for another finger, consider going down a cup size. Quite often, this problem also occurs if the fabric loses its elasticity.
Uncomfortable underwire
The underwire of a bra is designed to provide support to your bust. It should protect the under boob and the sides of the bust. The job of an underwire is to separate the breasts. If you see the boobs lying on top, the cup is probably too small and shallow. Only when the underwire separates the breasts, it offers optimum support. If it floats on top, you need to choose a bigger cup size.
To offer your bust the support it needs, it’s very important to wear the right bra size. Finding a good bra is like finding a life partner. If you’re unable to figure out your bra size yourself, it’s always better to go to a specialist. They’ll assess your bra size and literally give you something that will support your two babies. Wearing an unsupportive bra for an extended period of time can result in several problems and complications.

Consequences of Wearing the Wrong Bra Size
Breast pain
One major wrong bra size effect is breast pain. People who have large breasts but still wear a small cup face this problem. This can cause the sides of your breasts to hurt. On the other hand, if your bra is too big, there may be too much room for your boobs and this further contributes to the bounciness. Before determining if the pain is only from your bra, check if it is other things such as pregnancy, menstruation or breastfeeding.
Back, shoulder & neck pain
An ill-fitting bra and pain have a very strong link. When the size of your boobs changes suddenly, it can be alarming and a sign of health concern. When the breasts are not supported properly directly or indirectly, it can contribute to back pain. The best way to eliminate chronic back issues is by getting a well-fitted bra.
Other side effects include skin chaffing, bad posture, premature sagging and general embarrassment.
